Starting on Friday, July 11, Ka Makana Ali‘i is kicking off its Summer Vibes Concert Series under the stars every other Friday night from July 11 through August 8. On Friday, July 11 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in Center Court, enjoy a free concert by Tavana, a multi-instrumentalist from Honolulu, who uses his feet to lay down a variety of grooves while simultaneously playing guitar, banjo, lap steel, or ‘ukulele and singing soulful, island-inspired rock and blues. Come back for warm nights and cool vibes on Friday, July 25 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in Center Court for a concert by Sean Na‘auao, a Slack Key guitarist and vocalist, composer and producer who has won multiple Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards including Island Contemporary Album of the Year for his popular “Fish and Poi.” Recognized for his exceptional vocal ability, Sean was a founding member of the Mana’o Company, a group that made a huge mark on the Hawaiian music scene in the 80s and 90s. To close out the Summer Vibes Concert Series under the stars is Taimane on Friday, August 8 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in Center Court! Translated to diamond in Samoan, Taimane is an ‘ukulele virtuoso, a captivating performer, along with a masterful songwriter and interpreter. From Bach to rock, and flamenco infernos to tribal hymns, the multiple Nā Hōkū Hanohano award-winning artist focuses her songwriting and performances on bringing feelings and visions to life.
