Ka Makana Ali‘i Welcomes Hawai‘i’s First Tav Pacific to the Center for West O‘ahu
The Center’s newest retailer features a blend of traditional motifs and modern elements related to the Pacific people on apparel handmade in Rarotonga for men, women, and keiki
KAPOLEI, HI(May 5, 2025) — Ka Makana Ali‘i is excited to welcome the state’s first Tav Pacific to the Center for West O‘ahu. The 2,009-square-foot store opened on Friday, March 28 in the Macy’s wing of the Center next to Football Fanatics, across the corridor from Orangetheory Fitness. Tav Pacific features Polynesian patterns — a blend of traditional motifs and modern elements related to the Pacific people — on apparel handmade in Rarotonga for men, women, and keiki. This is the brand's first store outside of New Zealand and Cook Islands.
“We are excited to welcome Hawai‘i’s first Tav Pacific to the Center for West O‘ahu. This wonderful addition to the Ka Makana Ali‘i ‘ohana is home to one-of-a-kind artisanal pieces showcasing the beauty of the Pacific Islands,” said Stephanie England, general manager of Ka Makana Ali‘i. “We can’t wait for West O‘ahu to discover apparel for the whole ‘ohana in beautiful Polynesian patterns, and are honored to be home to the only Tav Pacific in the state.”
The story of Tav Pacific belongs to Ellena Tavioni – a Cook Islander who grew up surrounded by the legends, mysticism, and exotic flora and fauna that make up the fabric of the Pacific Islands. Growing up in a family of artists, carvers, sculptors, painters, and poets who have influenced her life since childhood, Tavioni was captured by the culture and her family’s spirit, which is woven into the tapestry of her fashion label Tav.
"It's been a long-held dream to bring Tav Pacific to Hawai‘i and we are honoured to be here, particularly at Ka Makana Ali'i, with its strong connection to Native Hawaiian interests,” said Ellena Tavioni, founder of Tav Pacific. “We hope to continue to be a part of connecting our cultures across the Pacific."
Garments are uniquely created, utilizing Polynesian patterns carved onto boards created by the Tavioni family artists. Block printing, painting and dip dyeing are all hand-done using various fabric paints and techniques on the natural fibers of cotton, silk and linen as well as mixes of Lycra and rayon for the perfect drape and design. This process means no two garments are the same: each an artisanal piece inspired by Tavioni's heritage.
