The Five Guys Story
Five Guys has been a Washington, DC area favorite since 1986 when Jerry and Janie Murrell offered sage advice to the four young Murrell brothers: "Start a business or go to college."The business route won and the Murrell family opened a carry-out burger joint in Arlington, Virginia.
Under the guidance of Jerry and Janie, the Murrell family served only hand-formed burgers cooked to perfection on a grill along with fresh-cut fries cooked in pure peanut oil. The little burger joint quickly developed a cult-like following. Press paid attention. Customers voted the burger"#1" in the metro area.
During the 1980's and 1990's the Murrell family perfected their simple system. Five Guys was The Place to get a fresh, juicy burger with all the toppings you could stuff between fresh-baked buns. A fifth brother was born and, as their family grew, so did their business. Four more restaurants with sit-down seating were added to accommodate the growing clientele.
Early in 2003 Jerry and Janie, together with the five"guys" began offering franchise opportunities. In just under 18 months, Five Guys Enterprises sold options for over 300 units. The overwhelming success of franchising a local restaurant made national news with articles in trade publications such as Nation's Restaurant News, Restaurant Business Magazine, and the Franchise Times.
Now, over 20 years after Five Guys first opened, there are over 1,000 locations nationwide and over 1500 units in development. Five Guys continues to receive media attention and has grown a cult-like following around the world.

KAPOLEI, HI (June 19, 2020) — Ka Makana Ali‘i is excited to announce it has signed an agreement with TD Food Group, Inc., a subsidiary of Restaurant Brands Hawaii, Ltd. to bring a Taco Bell to the Center for West O‘ahu. The fast-food Mexican restaurant brand opened its first Hawaii restaurant in 1976 and continues to expand throughout the islands as a fast-food favorite.
The standalone restaurant will feature a contemporary design with interior décor that is modern, colorful and fun. Customers will be able to order on the Taco Bell Mobile Ordering App, digital menu board or two kiosk ordering stations in the dining room designed to enhance the ordering experience. The eatery will serve up fast-food Mexican favorites like tacos, burritos, and chalupas, along with specialties like its Crunchwrap Supreme and Doritos Locos Tacos. Taco Bell at Ka Makana Ali‘i will be the 24th location on Oahu and 31st location statewide.

The story of TAV belongs to Ellena Tavioni – a Cook Islander who grew up surrounded by the legends, mysticism and exotic flora and fauna that make the fabric of these Pacific Islands. A culture that captured her spirit as it has her family past and present – a dynasty of artists, carvers, sculptors, painters and poets who have influenced her life since childhood. Their spirit wove into her background the tapestry that became the basis of her fashion label TAV.
TAV is unique. A cottage industry utilising Polynesian patterns – a blend of traditional motifs and modern elements related to the Pacific people – carved onto boards created by the Tavioni family artists.
Block printing, painting and dip dyeing are all hand done using various fabric paints and techniques on the natural fibres of cotton, silk and linen as well as mixes of Lycra and rayon for perfect drape and design.
This process means no 2 garments are the same, an artisanal piece inspired by our heritage. Created for you.

Teapresso Bar was founded in 2014 by Steve Nguyen who had a vision of bringing healthier drink alternatives to the Island. The first Teapresso Bar location opened on Bishop Street in downtown Honolulu and has since succeeded in positioning itself as a healthier alternative in the Coffee and Boba milk tea market. As of Jan 2019, there are currently 17 locations within the Hawaiian Islands.
Also, in collaboration with ABC Stores, Teapresso drinks are served in ABC Stores on Oahu, Maui, Big Island and Kauai. Teapresso Bar Houston and TeaLatte Bar (our sister company) opened up in May of 2018.
